Derek Young

Derek leads the Forest Change Analysis Lab (FOCAL), which works at the intersection of disturbance ecology and geospatial data science. The lab collects and analyzes data to inform forest management in an era of climate change, drought, and large high-severity wildfires. The lab also works to develop new methods for rapid, low-cost forest inventory using drones and other proximal remote sensing modalities. Work in the lab involves close collaboration with forest managers in an effort to address pressing forest management needs.
