On Friday, January 11th, the UC Davis Nu Iota Chapter of the Gamma Theta Upsilon International Geographical Honor Society swore in its first cohort. To be eligible for GTU, students must have completed at least 3 Geography courses, have a GPA of at least 3.3, and be in the top 35% of their class.

Angie Chapman, GGG PhD Student, receives 2018 James Beard Foundation Legacy Scholarship

Angie Chapman, a second-year PhD Student in the Geography Graduate Group, is the recipient of a 2018 James Beard Foundation Legacy Scholarship. The James Beard Foundation's mission is to celebrate, nurture, and honor chefs and other leaders making America's food culture more delicious, diverse, and sustainable for everyone. The award will support Angie as she continues her doctoral studies and pursues research on addressing the root causes of food insecurity in the United States. Angie holds a B.A. and M.A. in Geography from Bowling Green State University and Ohio University, respectively.

Nicholas Robinson, PhD student in Geography, wins the 2017 AAG Geographies of Food and Agriculture Specialty Group (GFASG) Graduate Research Grant

Nicholas Robinson is a PhD student at the University of California, Davis. He has a B.A. in global studies and in philosophy from UC Santa Barbara. He has worked as a researcher and community organizer in the fields of urban ecological infrastructure design, nuclear disarmament, and energy policy. Most recently, he developed and managed a mixed-vegetable market garden project in Iceland where he has lived part-time for six years. At UC Davis, he works as a research assistant for Dr.
